Oculus, the Facebook-acquired maker of the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift, has acquired Surreal Vision, a UK maker of software that maps real world spaces and recreates them as virtual environments.

The acquisition is expected to allow Oculus to build immersive game environments faster and perhaps allow sophisticated multiplayer games stitching multiple environments together.

Surreal Vision was created as a Ph.D. research project by its three founders while they were attending the Imperial College London. The team will relocate to Oculus’ lab in Redmond, Washington.

Oculus was purchased by Facebook in March of 2014.
